In our search for an additional herd sire we looked for a unique individual from a proven Polled Hereford herd with a long history of raising functional cattle.  Furthermore, we required a heavy muscled bull, which excelled in performance and maternal traits.  Last of all, we wanted "fresh" genetics, an outcross to the 6 or 7 sires that are dominating the genetic base in the majority of Polled Hereford shows and sales.

In the spring of 2001, our search brought us to the BAR JZ Ranch in central South Dakota.  After going through the impressive cow herd, we went to the bull lots.  That is when we first saw MAXIMILIAN.  "MAX" simply stuck out in "the crowd" unlike any other calf in a herd of contemporaries that we had ever seen.  MAX was overpowering in performance and muscling yet still very stylish in his look.  In addition to his obvious exceptional phenotype, MAX also met all of our criteria for a "fresh" new herd sire.

After calving out several calf crops sired by Max - he has exceeded our expectations both in calves and daughters in production.

NOTES:

In the BAR JZ herd, MAX's individual performance is phenomenal.  He had a birth ratio of 100, a weaning ratio of 137, and a yearling ratio of 122!

The first two calves of MAX to be shown stood 1st and 3rd at the National Western Stock Show in Denver.

MAX daughters are in production with excellent milk flow, teat size and placement.

No semen is being sold on MAX.   Contact us for information on MAX sons or daughter to add to your breeding program.
